What is makeup!? Let’s just say no one asks this question anymore, lol! A lot of people and brands,  have over time given definitions to what they feel and or think makeup to be, based on their personal and collective experiences.

By definition, makeup is:

  1.
cosmetics such as lipstick or powder applied to the face, used to enhance or alter the appearance.

  1.
the composition or constitution of something.

With makeup, there’s the cosmetic side and artistry side,  but by virtue of this conversation, let’s stick to the first definition shall we!?

Have you ever wondered, what ever brought this whole phenomenon about? I’m certain we can all attest to how life changing and impactful makeup has been, to not only women but men and the entire business world as a whole!

The history of cosmetics spans at least 7,000 years and is present in almost every society on earth. Cosmetic body art is argued to have been the earliest form of a ritual in human culture. The evidence for this comes in the form of utilized red mineral pigments (red ochre)including crayons associated with the emergence of Homo sapiens in Africa.

Cosmetics are substances or products used to enhance or alter the appearance of the face or fragrance and texture of the body. Many cosmetics are designed for use of applying to the face, hair, and body.

There is a makeup product or style of application for every occasion. Be it for every day wear, school, work, church and or social gatherings.

Coupled with the fact that most makeup is composed of skin safe ingredients women have only increased their demand for beauty products. For some women and men nowadays, applying makeup has become second nature. They wear makeup  on a daily basis! Some do it as a requirement depending on the nature of their jobs and others just to complete and compliment their entire look in general. Some will argue that there is a right and wrong way of wearing makeup, which I can’t fully agree because it can be subjective. Although I would say there is an appropriate look or makeup style for every occasion. For example, wearing bridal or editorial makeup to school or work or  wearing very minimal or close to no makeup as a bride (this can also be subjective to the bride’s preference)

In a nut shell, is makeup really relevant? Can a woman go without wearing makeup? Absolutely! But when the circumstances calls for it, why be plain and boring when you can dazzle and stunt on them *wink*
